Learn the ins and outs of traditional climbing, placing your own protection, and building gear anchors.

 

In this course you will get the chance to learn the fundamentals of gear placement, how to evaluate gear placements, evaluating rock, and where and how to build gear anchors. We will talk about strategy while leading trad routes as well as climbing technique required for crack climbing. In the afternoon you will get a chance to practice lead climbing in a safe environment. This is a great foundation to get you out climbing the beautiful Squamish granite on your own.

Before this course

You should have a solid foundation of sport climbing experience prior to enrolling in a trad climbing course. Knowing basic anchor building skills, how to lead sport routes, coiling ropes, and basic knots for rock climbing are valuable skills to ensure that you will get the full value out of this course.
